OUR HISTORY

The house was built in the 40s to serve a point of military sighting, for the exceptional view towards thebeach of Cala Sinzias. At the top of the hill – barren and almost devoid of vegetation – there was anartillery emplacement. Then abandonment.
Our hill on the sea closes to the north the beautiful beach of Cala Sinzias, right at the point where – in
August 1875 – seven prison guards and thirty inmates landed, with the task of reclaiming and reviving a marshy and unhealthy area, at that time uninhabited for more than 150 years due to famine and epidemics.
A few kilometers inland from that landing point, at the behest of the Ministry of the Interior, one of the largest agricultural prisons in Italy was erected, which came to house more than two thousand people including prisoners, custody agents and employees with family in tow (on the ‘;Domenica del Corriere’; of
April 13, 1902 we read how ‘in Castiadas there was the largest penal colony in Italy, so much so that its extension went well beyond 6,500 hectares’).
In a few years the hard work of the prisoners transformed the countryside of these places and the agricultural colony became a completely autonomous citadel, with a steam mill, an excellent dairy and a cellar.
All this until 1952, when ETFAS, Ente di Trasformazione Fondiaria Agraria della Sardegna, acquired the management of the entire territory of Castiadas and reorganized it by dividing it into various companies. The final closure of the agricultural colony occurred only in 1956, when all the prisoners were transferred to other penal colonies.
The areas immediately on the sea that were not suitable for agriculture – including our hill on the sea – were not used for decades by either the agricultural colony or ETFAS.
That’s how our parents saw her one morning in the spring of 1964, falling in love with her immediately.
Since then the small white house – at that time without electricity or running water – is the place where our families love to spend moments of vacation and relaxation in contact with beautiful nature.
In almost 60 years – in a beautiful interweaving of stories of our families – the place has changed. The house has become wider and more comfortable, vegetation has grown. But always respecting the place and its original atmosphere, as we are sure will continue to happen with our children.
It is our corner of paradise; It is the home of our families, but we like to welcome those who appreciate the same values. We wish you to enjoy the emotions of this place, so dear to us.
